Guidance officer
At Mt Warren Park SS we have the services of a Guidance Officer.
Guidance Officer working Monday to Wednesday: Mr Phil Quinn
School Guidance Officers work within schools to support the mental health and wellbeing of students, staff and the community. Support offered by guidance officers includes providing advice and counselling on educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family, and mental health and wellbeing issues.
Guidance officers are specialist teachers who deliver a broad range of services to school community members. They contribute to the development of a comprehensive student support and wellbeing program that is responsive to the needs of the school community.
Guidance officers may work directly with students in addition to working with a student's teachers, school support personnel, family, other specialists or external support providers.
Psychoeducational assessments and career development also form an important part of the work guidance officers undertake to enhance positive educational outcomes and career pathways for all students.
Guidance officers provide leadership, support and case management in responding to some of the most complex and challenging of circumstances including student protection matters, critical incidents, mental health issues, and suicide prevention and postvention support.
Guidance officers require a diverse range of skills and knowledge and an ability to form strong and productive relationships with key stakeholders in order to develop and implement plans and programs that are responsive to the needs of students.

School chaplain
Carl Rogers (1902-1987) was a humanistic psychologist who believed that for a person to grow they need an environment that includes genuineness (being authentic), acceptance (unconditional positive regard), and empathy (being listened to and understood).
At Mt Warren Park State School our Chaplain aims to provide an environment whereby the students, families and staff feel heard, understood and supported.
The School Chaplaincy Program is a voluntary program and looks different in each school. The program is varied to include many different activities and these can be based on pastoral care, education support, spiritual support and mentoring. The School Chaplain is an additional positive role model in the school and at Mt Warren Park State School our Chaplain works in a wide array of areas including:
one-on-one pastoral care for students, families and staff
grief and Loss support for students, families and staff
facilitate specialist support programs for at-risk students
support and participate in school activities
provide Education support to re-engage students back to their learning environment
provide spiritual support to students, families and staff who seek it
community Engagement
provide a Breakfast Club option for students and families
provide a Chic-chat for Senior students.
The Local Chaplaincy Committee (LCC) meet once a month, whereby our Chaplain meets with Chaplains from the Beenleigh Region, and community members to support the Chaplains. The School Chaplaincy Program is run by Scripture Union and is complimentary program to the service offered by the Guidance Officer. Chaplaincy is not a counselling service and the program can only be implemented in a school with a local community support.
At Mt Warren Park State School students access ongoing pastoral care from the Chaplain by being referred by the Student Support Service (SSS) team.
